Abstract:

Interviews with individuals primarily in the federal and state government, involved in the evacuation of Japanese-Americans from California during World War II. Photographs and copies of documentary material inserted and appended. V. 1, Decision and Exodus; v. II, the Interment.

Heckendorf, Planning for the Japanese Evacuation and Reforming Regulatory Agency Procedures, which also comment on his career as state director of professional and vocational standards; Tom C. Clark, Comments on the Japanese-American Relocaiton; Edward Ennis, A Justice Department Attorney Comments on the Japanese-American Relocation: Herbert Wenig, The California Attorney General's Office, the Judge Advocate General Corps and Japanese-American Relocation.
Robert Cozzens, Assistant National Director of the War Relocation Authority (Pat Frayne also participating in one interview); Dillon S. Myer, War Relocation Authority: the Director's Account; Ruth Kingman, The Fair Play Committee and Citizen Participation. Also included in v. II: photographs of Hisako Hibi's paintings of the Tanforan Assembly Center and Topaz Relocation Center; and, in the Appendix, photocopy of typed transcript of interview with Lila J. Andrews re her visit to the Minidoka Relocation Center.
